Connie Shehan is professor of sociology
at the University of Florida and director of the University's
Center for Excellence in Teaching. A leading family and marriage
scholar, she is author of “Marriages and Families: Reflections
of a Gendered Society,”and editor of The Journal of
Family Issues, which is published six times a year by Sage Publications.
She earned her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Shehan has received a number of awards for excellence in
teaching, including those presented by the College of Liberal
Arts and Sciences, the University of Florida, and the National
Council on Family Relations. Among the courses she teaches are
Marriages and Families and Sociology of Women.
In 1999, she published two books: Contemporary
Family Issues: A Collection of Readings (Simon and Schuster) and Through
the Eyes of the Children: Re-Visioning Children as Agents of
Family
Life (JAI Press).
Dr. Shehan previously served as director of the University of
Florida’s Women's Studies program (1985-89). She chaired
the Feminism and Family Studies Section of the National Council
on Family Relations and served on the NCFR's Board of Directors.
DIRECTIONS TO THE MARIAL CENTER
The MARIAL Center is located on the 4th floor of
the main building of Emory's Briarcliff Campus, 1256 Briarcliff
Road. There is ample parking close to the building. Alternatively,
you may take the Emory shuttle (Route A). The Emory shuttle (Route
A) provides transportation from the main campus to the MARIAL
Center every 20 minutes (a 5-10 minute ride). For the shortest
travel time, board the shuttle in front of the B. Jones Center
or at the corner of Dowman and Fishburne (across from Glenn Memorial)
at approximately 4, 24, and 44 minutes after each hour. A complete
